U.I.S.D. continues to experience extraordinary growth in student enrollment at all of its campuses. For the 2012-2013 school year, the number of students attending U.I.S.D. schools was approximately 43,321. The aforementioned figure accounts for all students at all U.I.S.D. campuses including the S.T.E.P. Academy on Loop 20 and Cherish Center located at U.I.S.D.’s 9th grade campus.
Current projections indicate that district-wide enrollment will increase by 4,000 students over the next five years and that student population will reach 46,921 by the year 2017-2018. At present, 28 out of 41 U.I.S.D. schools are over their capacity and 39 out of 41 U.I.S.D. schools are over 91% of their capacity.
Last year, a total of 8,150 students received instruction in portable classrooms with an average teacher -student ratio of 25:1. U.I.S.D. continues to seek out solutions that will successfully reduce overcrowding, the use of portable buildings and create safer learning environments for all of our students.
